Hollinsclough

Has anyone connected Hollinsclough to the alliterative medieval poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written not much later than 1370. The Priceless 14th century document is housed in the British Museum.

It is not known who wrote the poem but it is believed, due to the poets dialect, that he was from the Staffordshire moorlands area, close to the Cheshire, Derbyshire border.

Place names, topographical landmarks, are referred to in the poem: Roaches, Flash, Knot(bury), Frith, Rake, Kerre, Knar, High Forest (Haut-desert).

Hollinsclough is close to these places and has Rakes and Carrs. I believe this medieval author would have known the Hollinsclough area.
