Firstly may I say what a wonderful site you have - a real credit to Hollinsclough.

Secondly I hope to learn more about the area and hope to contribute more about the Naden/Nadin family who made this and the surrounding area their home from the 16th Century at least. I would be interested to learn of anyone who knew or knows of the family. Our Family Society has accumulated a wealth of information but it would be good explore it on the ground.

Thirdly I have a query for which someone might have an answer. Wherever were the people of Hollinsclough  baptised and buried before the Longnor records began. They rarely appear in the Alstonefield records - some of the registers 1620-38 are missing does anyone know why - but even in the others I have wills which prove that Nadens died and lived but no record in the area of their baptism. Edmund Naden for instance died between writing his will 04/11/1686 and his inventory being taken 21/01/1686 but no burial and he had two brothers none of whose baptisms appear. Has anyone resolved this problem?

Thank you so much for your lovely comments in your mail and on this message board.  Lyn & I really appreciate your very kind words.  During the last few months we have not been able to do very much to the site but hopefully this will change in the new year.  In fact, your comments have really motivated us to 'get our act together' again so thank you.
Re the missing years - we have looked/asked etc everywhere for the missing years but we have never found out what happened to those records; simply disappeared.  Sadly I don't think that they exist any more.
Doubtess you are aware that there are still a lot of Nadens in the area.  You are currently transcribing Edmond's will (also on this site).  If you know what some of the items in the inventory are, especially the 'jaycon', please will you let me know.  I wondered if it might be jerkin but I don't know.  If you are interested I can tell you where he lived.
Thank you.

One of my ancestors Ellen (Helen) Brundley (also known as Brindley) had married a Joseph Naden sometime before 1760. She was the daughter of John and Mary Brindley of Hollinsclough. Her parents had one cottage and two farms at Hollinsclough, these being Nailors farm and Chapmans Living.

Ellen and her husband Joseph Naden are mentioned on a document of 1760, requiring Mary Brindley and her children, including Ellen, to appear at the consistory court at Lichfield Cathedral. John her father had died intestate, Mary was required to exhibit an inventory of her husbands personal estate or a Will, if he had made one.

By the way, I share your frustration in not being able to find BMD's of families in the Alstonefield area during the 17th and 18th centuries. You may find a marriage of a family member but not a birth. You may find a death but not a birth or marriage, yet they obviously existed?

I hope this is of interest.

Noel
