Web Sites Which May Help You Find Family You Never Thought You Had.

Some of the free web sites I have found very helpful over the years in my quest for getting to the top of my ever expanding family tree.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/hughwallis This site is free. If you cannot pick the web page up just type hugh wallis in google. You can search on any parish in the country. Once you have found your parish click on the years. It will take you to a new page, type in your surname and it will bring up everyone with that name. Click on the name and it will bring up the parents. Press the back arrow to go to your group of people again. When you have finished with your surnames close the page and it will take you back to your parish. This is a great site for finding those extra sibling you knew nothing about.

www.familysearch,org The above site gets it's information from this site.

www.ukbdmd.org.uk  Some counties have lots of information. Cheshire is great. Staffordshire and Derbyshire have yet to catch up.

www.wishful-thinking.org.uk Derbyshire has lots of information thanks to a group of very dedicated people. This site has been an amazing help to me.

www.genuki.org.uk  The above site is linked to this.

www.andrewspages Interesting information on the Derbyshire Staffordshire area.

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk Type in a name and you may come up with a surprise.

www.cwgc.org The web site for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

www.hollinsclough.org I have to mention your site it is geat.

Web sites for the RAF, Army or Navy.

If all else fails try typing in a search engine the name and date of birth you are looking for. Or maybe the place, church, group ect. Try as many options you can think off. Sometimes you may be surprised where it takes you.

There are also many sites where you can view census information ect. You can have pay as you go viewing or an annual membership. Some of these sites are well worth joining. Make sure you make a list of what you want to search on before you start. Start with the most recent census and work your way backwards.

If you are new to the hobby of trying to trace your family. Speak to your own family members and friends first. You will be surprised at what you can find out to start you on your search.

It is the most amazing hobby.

Happy hunting

Carol
